City Break: Greek Pies and Wines at the “Royal Box of Athens”

Hotel Grande Bretagne, located in the center of Athens, has been part of the city’s rich history since 1874. Charming its guests with old world luxury, it’s no surprise that it remains one of the poshest hotels in Southern Europe. Nicknamed “The Royal Box of Athens,” Grande Bretagne invites City Breakers to dine and imbibe with style at its Winter Garden City Lounge.

Adjacent to the hotel’s lobby, the atrium space invokes early-20th century Greek elegance. Guests escape to an opulent haven where live piano music plays in the background, and fine porcelain and damask napkins adorn tables. Stained glass, marble floors, high ceilings, and an abundance of natural light, make this lounge an ideal place to relax, have a drink with friends, savor a light meal, or even hold a small business meeting.

This month, Winter Garden introduced a special menu of delicious Greek pies and sparkling wines. Guests can accompany the classic Spinach and Cheese Pie with the Amalia Brut Tselepus or with the Karanikas Brut. If they take the sweet route, the Moscato D’Ifestia and the Hatzigeorgiou complement the Sweet Pumpkin Pie with Walnut Ice Cream or the Chocolate Pie with Orange Sorbet.

The lounge’s regular menu, available throughout the day, offers a variety of small plates and drinks.
